Teddies for Loving Care (TLC) is a charitable organization locally managed by Freemasons, dedicated to providing comfort and emotional support to children and individuals facing difficult circumstances, often through the gift of teddy bears and other comforting items. The charity’s mission centres around spreading kindness and warmth by giving teddy bears to people in hospitals, hospices, and other care settings.
A true reflection of the outstanding efforts that the TLC team go to in supporting those in need can be demonstrated in the following story provided by W Bro Roger Garrett, the Chair of TLC Notts.
Isobelle is a 15-month-old toddler who suffers from multiple allergies. When these flare up, they cause varying levels of illness, often leaving her tired, upset, and exhausted. Worried and anxious about Isabelle’s health, her parents took her to King’s Mill Hospital to see a consultant.
Before her first examination, a nurse gave Isobelle a TLC Red Ted. This thoughtful gift helped ease her fears and reduce the trauma of the procedure. From that moment, Isobelle adored Red Ted and never let him out of her sight. However, after a subsequent hospital visit, Red Ted went missing — nowhere to be found! Isobelle was heartbroken; her best friend was gone, and she didn’t understand what happened.
Desperate, her mother reached out to W Bro Roger Garrett, Chairman of TLC Notts, to ask if they could buy a replacement teddy. Roger’s answer was firm: “Absolutely not… but you can have one for free!”
That Sunday afternoon, Roger and his wife Pat visited Isabelle and her parents, bringing a new Red Ted to comfort the distraught little girl. Unfortunately, Isobelle was unwell and asleep when they arrived, so they left Red Ted in her father’s care, who gently tucked him in beside his precious daughter. In this way, Red Ted found his way back home, ready to provide the warmth and comfort Isabelle needed. When Roger and Pat returned home, they were greeted with the joyful photo below.

It’s hard to say who was happier — Isobelle, reunited with her beloved Red Ted, or the cuddly teddy himself, back with his favourite friend in the whole world. Let’s hope that he doesn’t decide to go on any more adventures in the future!!
A huge congratulations to W Bro Roger and Pat on making sure that Isobelle will always have Red Ted with her whenever she needs him nearby.
The Nottinghamshire Freemasons are immensely proud of all the support and efforts that Roger and his team at TLC provide to the local community and allows us to enlighten people about “Our Charity”.
