Since 2012 Prestonian Lecturer, Tony Harvey, has been raising money through his books and talks for The Scouts and Masonic charities. So far, the amount raised for The Scouts has been £44,700. He has raised a further £84,500 for Masonic charities. In recognition of his support, The Scout Association named the meeting room in the new Syd Kesseler Centre in Tony’s honour. He chose to call it, “The Square & Compasses Meeting Room.”

The centre, at The Scout national headquarters, Gilwell Park, was opened by the Chief Scout, Dwayne Fields, on 18th November and Tony and his wife, Diane, were invited as guests. The Chief Scout wanted to learn about the connection between Scouting and Freemasonry and the opportunities for collaboration.
Tony presented him with a copy of his 2012 Prestonian Lecture, “Scouting & Freemasonry: two parallel organisations?”

Tony, in his role as The Scouts HQ Liaison for Freemasonry, recently launched a Scout adult membership unit specifically for Freemasons and their partners. “Square & Compasses National Support Team” offers full membership of The Scouts and the opportunity to volunteer on an occasional and ad hoc basis, in our capacity as Freemasons. Tony’s dream is for Freemasons to be visibly supporting The Scouts at national and local events.
