Well known and popular BBC broadcaster John Holmes will be presenting the acts on the main stage at the Community Fun Day in Old Market Square from 10:00am - 1:00pm.
John’s early career spanned TV and radio on shows such as ‘Look Here’ with punk star Toya Wilcox, ‘Down Your Way’ with star names such as Spike Milligan and Nigel Hawthorne, ‘Any Questions’ with Jonathan Dimbleby, and launching ‘Any Answers’ as a phone-in.
Moving into Local Radio, he was particularly fortunate to find himself at BBC Radio Nottingham as a sports reporter in the halcyon days of the late 70s when Forest were winning European Cups under Clough and Taylor, Rice and Hadlee were playing for Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club and Torvil And Dean were conquering the world with their ice dance.
These days you can hear John on Sunday mornings, 9 until noon, on BBC Radio Nottingham. Special guests have included Dame Stella Rimington of MI5, Sir Paul Smith, Nobel Prize Winner Sir Peter Mansfield, Lord Falconer, Sir Peter Bazalgette, Jasper Carrot and Dave Bartram ‘the fish man’.
John is proud to be a vice-president of the Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust and chairman and founder member of the Karen Clifford Skin Cancer charity; SKCIN.
In 2011, the University of Nottingham awarded him the honorary degree of Doctor of Letters for services to the BBC and local community and this year the Borough of Gedling recognised his work with the Lifetime Achievement Award.
Come along and meet John who is also an active member of Edwalton Lodge, West Bridgford.
